About Pixellin

Pixellin is a workshop of 77 image tools that run where your images already are: on your device.

Why it exists

Most everyday image jobs are small. You shrink a photo for a form, turn an iPhone HEIC into a JPG, or resize a banner for a link preview. Yet the usual way to do them is to upload personal files to a stranger’s server, wait, click past a few prompts, and hope the copy gets deleted.

Modern browsers are powerful enough to do this work themselves. Pixellin uses Web Workers, Canvas and WebAssembly builds of proven codecs (MozJPEG, libwebp, libavif, OxiPNG and libheif) to process images locally, in parallel, without an upload.

Principles

  • Local first. If the browser can do it, it happens in the browser. Today, that’s every tool.
  • Honest by default. No fake progress bars, no fake download buttons, no claims we can’t back up. When a tool has limits, like solid-color background removal, the page says so.
  • Batch is normal. One image or two hundred, the workflow is the same.
  • No account wall. Tools are free to use without signing up.
  • Fast pages. Heavy codecs load only when a job needs them, and pages ship almost no JavaScript until you use a tool.

How it’s funded

Running Pixellin is inexpensive because there are no processing servers. The site may show a small number of clearly labelled ads away from the tool controls. Optional paid extras for heavy users may come later, and the free tools will stay free.
