  4. 04Download individual JPGs, or use Download all for a ZIP.

Why use this tool

Much smaller photos

Photos saved as PNG are often huge. JPG’s lossy compression usually cuts them to a fraction of the size with little visible change.

You control transparency

Transparent areas get a solid background. White is the default, or pick any color that matches where the image will appear.

Converted on your device

Your files are processed in the browser tab and never uploaded, which matters for screenshots of private documents or chats.

Use cases

Emailing phone screenshots

A dozen PNG screenshots add up to more than your email attachment limit. As JPG files, they usually fit comfortably in one message.

Upload size limits

A job portal or government form caps uploads and only accepts JPG. Convert the PNG scan, then lower quality if it still needs to shrink.

Photos exported as PNG

An editing app exported your holiday photos as PNG. Convert them to JPG to save storage and make sharing faster.

Technical details

JPG doesn’t support transparency. Any transparent or semi-transparent pixels are blended onto a solid color, white by default. If a logo will sit on a dark page, choose a matching background so the edges don’t show a light halo. The default quality is 90, which keeps photos looking clean; lowering it to around 75–80 saves more space with little visible difference for most photos.

Savings depend on content. Photos stored as PNG often shrink dramatically. Screenshots full of text and flat color shrink less and can show faint smudges around letters at low quality, so keep quality high for those or consider PNG compression instead. If you need a file under an exact size, Compress to Exact File Size searches for the right quality automatically.

Your files stay with you

This tool runs entirely inside your browser using Web Workers and WebAssembly. Your images are never uploaded, never stored on a server and never used to train AI. Close the tab and they’re gone. Learn more

Frequently asked questions

Why does my transparent PNG get a white background as JPG?

JPG has no transparency channel, so every pixel must have a solid color. Pixellin fills transparent areas with white by default. You can pick a different background color before processing so the image blends with where it will be used.

Does PNG to JPG lose quality?

Yes, a little. JPG is lossy, so fine detail is simplified to save space. At the default quality of 90 the change is hard to see in photos. Sharp text and thin lines show artifacts sooner, so keep quality higher for screenshots.

How much smaller will the JPG be?

It varies with the image. A photo saved as PNG often becomes a small fraction of its original size. A simple screenshot with large flat areas saves less. The file list shows the exact size and percentage saved for each image.

Should I convert screenshots to JPG?

It depends on the goal. For email or upload limits, JPG at high quality is fine. For screenshots you’ll keep, edit or show text in, PNG stays sharper, and PNG compression can often shrink it a lot without changing the format.
