Use cases

Launch on several platforms

One product photo needs a 1080 × 1080 feed post, a 1080 × 1920 story and a 1200 × 675 X post. Run it through each preset in turn.

Refresh profile banners

Update the 1500 × 500 X header, the 1584 × 396 LinkedIn banner and the 851 × 315 Facebook cover from the same photo.

Pins and vertical covers

Turn a photo into a 1000 × 1500 Pinterest pin or a 1080 × 1920 TikTok cover. Keep the subject near the center so cropping doesn't cut it.

Technical details

Each platform designs around a few aspect ratios: 1:1 squares, 4:5 and 3:4 portraits, 9:16 vertical stories and 16:9 or roughly 1.91:1 landscapes. Uploading at the recommended size leaves the platform less to crop or rescale on its own, which can otherwise cut off text or soften the image. Very wide banners such as 1500 × 500 or 1584 × 396 can be cropped differently on phones and desktops and partly covered by the profile photo, so keep logos and text away from the edges.

Preset sizes follow each platform's published recommendations as of 2026, and platforms change them from time to time. Every preset crops to fill except the WhatsApp status and chat presets, which fit the whole image inside. For a full table with notes for each platform, see the social media image sizes guide. Output can stay in the original format or be saved as JPG, PNG or WebP; JPG is usually the lightest choice for photos.

Frequently asked questions

What size should social media images be in 2026?

Common sizes are 1080 × 1080 for square posts, 1080 × 1350 for portrait posts, 1080 × 1920 for stories and vertical video covers, and 1200 × 630 for link previews. Banners vary by platform. Platforms update these occasionally, so check the preset list.

Which aspect ratio works on the most platforms?

Square 1:1 is accepted in nearly every feed, and 9:16 at 1080 × 1920 fits stories on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and WhatsApp. Portrait 4:5 fills more of the screen in feeds that support it. Landscape 16:9 suits X posts and YouTube.

Why does my image get cropped after I upload it?

Platforms crop images that don't match their supported shapes, and feeds may show a preview crop of the full image. Resizing to the exact preset first means you decide what's cut. Keep important text and faces near the center, since the edges go first.

Do platforms compress my image anyway?

Most platforms re-encode uploads to save bandwidth, so some quality loss happens on their side. Uploading at the recommended size avoids an extra rescale on top of that. It also helps to start from a clean original rather than an image that was already heavily compressed.
