Why use this tool

All six sizes

Square 1080 × 1080, portrait 1080 × 1350 and 1080 × 1440, landscape 1080 × 566, story 1080 × 1920 and profile 320 × 320.

Grid-ready 3:4

Since 2025 the profile grid shows tall 3:4 tiles, so 1080 × 1440 posts appear in the grid without extra cropping.

Consistent carousels

Resize every slide to one preset. Instagram uses the first slide's shape for the whole carousel, so matching sizes avoids surprise crops.

Supported formats

Use cases

Portrait product shots

Use 1080 × 1350 for feed posts that take up more screen height, or 1080 × 1440 so the tile in your profile grid shows the whole image.

Stories and Reel covers

Turn a vertical photo into a 1080 × 1920 story. Keep text away from the top and bottom, where your name and the reply bar sit.

Profile photo

Instagram shows profile photos as a small circle. Resize to 320 × 320 with your face centered so the round crop doesn't clip it.

Technical details

Instagram displays feed images 1080 px wide, so uploading at that width avoids an extra rescale. Height decides the shape: 1080 × 1080 is 1:1, 1080 × 1350 is 4:5, 1080 × 1440 is 3:4 and 1080 × 566 is about 1.91:1. Since 2025 the profile grid shows posts as 3:4 tiles, so square and 4:5 images are trimmed at the sides there, while 3:4 posts fill the tile as they are.

All Instagram presets use Crop to fill, so nothing is stretched. If you'd rather keep the entire photo, use exact dimensions at 1080 × 1350 with Fit inside, which can fill the empty bands with a blurred copy of the image. Sizes are current as of 2026, and Instagram may change them. More tips are in resizing images for Instagram.

Frequently asked questions

What size should an Instagram post be in 2026?

Use 1080 px wide. For portrait posts, choose 1080 × 1350 (4:5) or 1080 × 1440 (3:4); for squares, 1080 × 1080; for landscape, 1080 × 566. Pick 3:4 if you want the tile in your profile grid to show the whole image.

How do I post a full photo on Instagram without cropping?

Very tall or very wide photos don't fit Instagram's feed shapes, so something has to change. Use a preset if you're fine losing the edges. To keep the whole photo, use exact dimensions at 1080 × 1350 or 1080 × 1440 with Fit inside, which adds a color or blurred border instead.

Why is my profile grid cutting off my posts?

Since 2025 Instagram's profile grid uses 3:4 portrait tiles. Square and 4:5 posts are trimmed at the sides to fit them. Posting at 1080 × 1440 makes the post and its grid tile match, so nothing important disappears from your profile view.

What size is an Instagram story?

1080 × 1920 pixels, a 9:16 vertical shape that fills a phone screen. The same size works for Reel covers. Keep a margin at the top and bottom free of text, because the app overlays your profile name, the progress bar and the reply field there.

What size is an Instagram profile picture?

Use 320 × 320 pixels. Instagram shows profile photos as a small circle, so the corners of the square are hidden. Center your face or logo and leave some room around it so the round crop doesn't clip hair, ears or lettering.
