How it works

  1. 01Drop, choose or paste your logos, signatures or icons.
  2. 02Check the detected color, then adjust tolerance, edge softness and edge-connected removal.
  3. 03Select Process to make the backgrounds transparent.
  4. 04Download each PNG or WebP, or use Download all for a ZIP.

Why use this tool

Auto-detected color

The background color is read from the image corners, or you can pick it yourself when the corners differ.

Keeps inner white

Remove only areas connected to the edges, so white letters or shapes inside a logo stay solid.

Clean, soft edges

Edge softening blends the outline smoothly, so curves don’t look jagged on dark backgrounds.

Supported formats

Use cases

Signatures for documents

Photograph or scan your signature on white paper, remove the paper, and place the transparent PNG on contracts and letters.

Logos on dark sites

A logo exported with a white box looks wrong on a dark header. Remove the white and keep the inner details intact.

Scanned stamps and icons

Lift a company stamp, hand-drawn icon or clip art from a scan so it can be layered over other designs.

Technical details

This tool removes a solid or near-solid background color. Pixellin samples the corners to detect it, or you pick it. Tolerance decides how far a pixel’s color can differ and still count as background: raise it for off-white paper or light JPG noise, lower it if parts of your subject start disappearing. Edge softness makes boundary pixels partly transparent instead of cutting them hard, which hides jagged outlines.

With “only areas connected to the edges” on, removal spreads inward from the border and stops at your subject, so the white inside a logo or letter is kept. It’s not an AI cut-out: it can’t separate a person or a pet from a room or a street. Results are saved as PNG or WebP, the formats that store transparency. Our guide to making a background transparent covers more examples.

Frequently asked questions

Can this remove the background from a photo of a person?

No, and it isn’t designed to. It removes one solid or near-solid color, so it works when the subject sits on a plain backdrop. A person in a room, a pet on grass or anything on a busy background needs an AI cut-out tool, which this is not.

Why did white parts inside my logo disappear?

Those areas match the background color, so they were removed too. Turn on “only areas connected to the edges”. Removal then starts at the border and stops at your design, keeping enclosed white such as the inside of letters or a white emblem.

What tolerance should I use?

Start low and increase until the background disappears in the preview. A clean digital logo needs very little tolerance. Scans and phone photos of paper have uneven, slightly gray white, so they need more. If edges of your subject fade, you’ve gone too far.

Why do I see a light fringe around the edges?

Anti-aliased edges contain pixels blended between your subject and the old white background. Raise tolerance slightly or increase edge softness to fade them out. Fringes are most visible when you place the result on a dark background, so preview it there.

Why can’t I save the result as JPG?

JPG has no transparency, so the background would simply be filled again. The tool saves PNG, the most widely accepted transparent format, or WebP, which is usually smaller. If you actually want a different solid color, use Change Background instead.
