Why use this tool
Opens on any device
JPG works on Windows PCs, Android phones, smart TVs, print kiosks and every upload form that refuses HEIC.
Personal photos stay private
Family photos are decoded in your browser by a built-in HEIC decoder. Nothing is uploaded to a server.
Location data removed
The JPG doesn’t carry over EXIF data, so GPS coordinates from your iPhone aren’t included in shared copies.
Supported formats
Use cases
iPhone photos on a Windows PC
You copied photos from your iPhone and Windows shows .heic files it can’t preview. Convert them to JPG and they open in any viewer.
Sending photos to family
Relatives on Android or older computers can’t open your HEIC pictures. Send JPG copies that work everywhere, without the location data attached.
Online forms and listings
A rental application or marketplace listing only accepts JPG. Convert the photos from your iPhone directly in the browser before uploading.
Technical details
HEIC (also called HEIF) is the default photo format on iPhone because it stores images efficiently. Outside Apple devices, support is patchy. Pixellin decodes HEIC with a WebAssembly build of libheif, a one-time download of about 3 MB the first time you add a HEIC file. Safari can decode HEIC natively. Photos are saved as JPG at quality 90 by default.
The JPG will usually be larger than the HEIC for similar quality, because HEIC compresses more efficiently. Orientation is applied to the pixels, so portrait shots stay upright, and colors are converted to sRGB for consistent display. EXIF metadata, including GPS location, camera details and date taken, is not copied. If you’d rather fix the problem on your PC itself, see opening HEIC files on Windows.
Your files stay with you
This tool runs entirely inside your browser using Web Workers and WebAssembly. Your images are never uploaded, never stored on a server and never used to train AI. Close the tab and they’re gone. Learn more
Frequently asked questions
Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
A small amount, because JPG is lossy and the photo is compressed again. At the default quality of 90 the difference is very hard to see on screen or in normal prints. Raise the slider closer to 100 if you want the closest possible copy.
Will my iPhone photo keep its location data?
No. Converted files don’t keep EXIF metadata, so GPS coordinates, camera model and date taken are not included in the JPG. That makes the copies safer to share, but keep the originals if you want that information.
Why can’t I open HEIC files on Windows?
Windows doesn’t always include HEIC support out of the box, so many apps show an error or a blank thumbnail. Converting to JPG avoids the issue entirely, since every Windows photo app opens JPG.
Why is the first HEIC conversion slower?
The first time you add a HEIC file, your browser downloads the HEIC decoder, about 3 MB. After that it’s ready for the rest of the session. In Safari, HEIC is decoded natively without that download.
Can I convert a whole camera roll at once?
You can add up to 200 HEIC photos per batch, each up to 50 MB. On iPhone and iPad, photos above roughly 16.7 megapixels are scaled down to fit Safari’s canvas limit, and the result tells you when that happened.
