Guides
Short, practical answers to the image problems people actually run into. Each guide links to the tool that does the job, privately in your browser.
- Batch Resize Hundreds of Photos at Once Open the batch resizer, add up to 200 photos, set a long-edge width with "Don't enlarge" on, choose JPG or WebP and download a ZIP. For more photos, repeat in batches of 200. Batch Image ResizerBulk Image CompressorResize by Width
- Choose the Right Image Format for the Web Use AVIF or WebP for photos with a JPG fallback, PNG or lossless WebP for screenshots and graphics, SVG for logos and icons, and video instead of GIF for animation. Convert to AVIFConvert to WebPImage Optimizer
- Compress JPG without losing visible quality Re-encode once at quality 70–85 with a modern encoder such as MozJPEG, strip metadata, and always start from the best original you have. The result is usually 40–70% smaller and looks the same at normal viewing size. Compress JPGOptimize JPGImage Quality Optimizer
- How to Convert PNG to WebP (and When You Should) Convert PNG to WebP when the image is going on a website: transparency is kept, and files are often 25–80% smaller depending on content. Keep the PNG as your master, and serve the WebP with a picture element if you need a fallback. PNG to WEBPConvert to WebPCompress WEBP
- How to Create a Favicon for Your Website A modern site needs four things: a favicon.ico (32 and 48 px) as a fallback, an SVG favicon, a 180×180 apple-touch-icon.png and 192/512 px icons listed in a web manifest. Generate them from one square image and add four link tags. Favicon GeneratorICO Generator
- Image Resolution and DPI, Explained An image's real resolution is its pixel count. DPI is only a note saying how many of those pixels to print per inch. Divide pixels by DPI to get print size in inches; for sharp prints, aim for 300 DPI. Image Dimensions CheckerResize to Exact Size
- Make an Image Background Transparent If the background is one solid color, like a white page behind a logo or signature, you can remove it cleanly with a color-key tool and save as PNG or WebP. Busy photo backgrounds need a masking tool instead. Remove Solid BackgroundChange Background ColorCrop Image
- Open HEIC files on Windows Windows needs the HEIF Image Extensions plus the HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store to open HEIC. If you'd rather not install anything, convert the photos to JPG in your browser, or set your iPhone to save JPG with Settings > Camera > Formats > Most Compatible. HEIC to JPGHEIC to PNG
- Optimize images for your website Resize each image to the size it's displayed at (with srcset for different screens), serve AVIF or WebP with a JPG fallback, set width and height to prevent layout shift, lazy-load everything below the fold, and give the main hero image a high fetch priority. - Reduce a Photo's Size for an Online Form Do it in three steps: crop to the required aspect ratio, resize to the required pixel dimensions, then compress to just under the KB limit. Most rejections come from skipping the first two. Compress to 50 KBCompress to 20 KBResize to Exact Size
- Reduce image file size Pixel dimensions usually matter most: halving the width cuts the pixel count by about 75%. After that, choose a modern format such as WebP, lower the quality to 70–80, strip metadata, and for graphics reduce the number of colors. Compress ImagesResize ImagesConvert to WebP
- Remove EXIF metadata from photos Check a photo with an EXIF viewer to see what it contains, then strip the metadata with a lossless tool that rewrites the file structure without touching the pixels. To stop it at the source, turn off location access for your phone's camera. EXIF ViewerRemove EXIF DataImage Metadata Viewer
- Resize images for Instagram Upload at 1080 px wide: 1080×1350 (4:5) for most feed posts, 1080×1440 (3:4) if you care how posts look on your profile grid, and 1080×1920 for Stories and Reels. Crop to fill when the subject allows it, or fit inside with a blurred background to keep the whole photo. Instagram Image ResizerCrop ImageResize to Exact Size
