Why use this tool

Transparency is kept

Logos, stickers and cut-outs saved as WebP keep their transparent background in the PNG version.

No extra compression

PNG is lossless, so the converted image keeps exactly the pixels the WebP decoded to, ready for editing.

Private in-browser conversion

Everything happens inside your browser tab. Your files are never uploaded or stored on a server.

Use cases

Editing a downloaded graphic

A transparent icon you saved is a WebP your editor won’t import. As PNG it opens in almost any image editor with the alpha channel intact.

Slides and documents

You want a logo with no white box behind it in a presentation. PNG keeps the transparent edges and is accepted by most office apps.

Archiving web graphics

Saving assets for a project archive? PNG is a widely supported lossless format, so later edits won’t add compression artifacts.

Technical details

PNG and WebP both support transparency, so alpha channels, soft shadows and anti-aliased edges carry over unchanged. If the WebP was lossy, any artifacts it already contains stay in the PNG; converting can’t add detail back. What you gain is a lossless copy that won’t degrade further as you edit and re-save it. That matters if you plan to crop, add text, recolor or combine the image with others, since each save of a lossy file would compress it again. Colors are converted to sRGB for consistent display.

The PNG is often noticeably larger than the WebP, particularly for photos, because PNG’s lossless compression isn’t designed for photographic detail. For photos without transparency that you only need to open or share, WebP to JPG gives a smaller file. Animated WebP files convert their first frame only, giving a still PNG. A batch can hold up to 200 files of up to 50 MB each, and you can download them individually or as one ZIP.

Your files stay with you

Frequently asked questions

Does WebP to PNG keep the transparent background?

Yes. Both formats support full transparency, so the PNG keeps the same transparent and semi-transparent areas as the WebP. That makes PNG the right choice for logos, stickers and icons that need to sit on different backgrounds.

Should I convert WebP to PNG or JPG?

Choose PNG for graphics, screenshots, transparent images or anything you’ll edit further. Choose JPG for ordinary photos you just want to open, print or upload, because the file will be much smaller and transparency doesn’t matter.

Why is the PNG larger than my WebP?

WebP uses efficient compression that’s often lossy, while PNG stores every pixel losslessly. A photo can grow several times in size as PNG. Graphics with flat colors grow less.

Will converting to PNG improve a blurry WebP?

No. The PNG reproduces the WebP’s pixels exactly, including blur or compression artifacts. It only prevents additional loss from here on. For better quality you need a larger or higher-quality source image.
