Why use this tool
Adjustable quality
Start from the default of 75 and move the slider up or down depending on how much detail each image needs.
Alpha channel kept
WebP stickers, cutouts and product images with transparent backgrounds stay transparent after compression.
Stays WebP
Files remain WebP, so you can swap them into your site without changing image tags or file extensions.

Use cases
Oversized WebP exports
Design tools sometimes export WebP at very high quality. Re-compress those files before they ship so they deliver the size advantage WebP is known for.
Sticker and cutout packs
Shrink a set of transparent WebP stickers or product cutouts for a chat app or storefront while keeping the backgrounds clear.
Image-heavy landing pages
Bring hero and gallery WebP images down before a launch so the largest image on the page loads sooner on phones.
Technical details
WebP supports both lossy compression and an alpha channel, which is why it is common on modern sites. Here you control the quality directly, with a default of 75. Lowering it shrinks the file further; very low values soften fine textures and text edges. Transparency is kept, so cutouts don’t gain a background. Re-encoding a WebP that was already saved at low quality gains little, and if the result would be larger, the original is kept as “Already optimized”.
Want the quality picked for you? Optimize WebP tests several quality levels with SSIM, keeps the smallest one that still looks identical, and strips metadata along the way. Use this page when you want one specific setting applied to every file, for example to match an existing style guide or a build pipeline’s defaults. Each result shows its new size and percentage saved, so you can adjust and process again.

Frequently asked questions
How do I reduce the size of a WebP image?
Add the WebP files to this page, lower the quality slider from its default of 75 if you want a smaller result, and select Process. Each file shows its original size, new size and percentage saved before you download it.
Does WebP compression keep transparency?
Yes. WebP has an alpha channel and this compressor keeps it. Images with transparent backgrounds, such as stickers, icons and product cutouts, stay transparent after compression and can be placed on any background.
What WebP quality setting should I use?
75 works well for most photos on the web. Go to 80–90 for images with fine text or detailed textures, and try 60–70 for thumbnails. Compare the preview with the original before downloading, since every image responds differently.
Why didn’t my WebP get any smaller?
It was probably saved at a low quality already. Compressing it again at a higher setting would make it larger, so Pixellin keeps the original and labels it “Already optimized” instead of giving you a bigger file.
