How it works

  1. 01Drop, choose or paste HEIC or HEIF images from your iPhone.

  3. 03Check the previews and new file sizes.
  4. 04Download each PNG, or use Download all for a ZIP.

Why use this tool

Lossless output

PNG stores the decoded pixels exactly, so cropping, retouching and re-saving don’t pile on compression artifacts.

Ready for design tools

PNG is accepted by almost every editor, layout app and slide program that can’t read HEIC.

Decoded in your browser

A built-in HEIC decoder runs on your device. Your iPhone photos are never uploaded.

Use cases

Retouching a product photo

You shot a product on your iPhone and will edit it in several passes. Starting from PNG avoids recompressing the image after each save.

Preparing a cut-out

You plan to remove a plain background from an iPhone shot. PNG supports transparency, so it’s a good working format for that next step.

Screenshots and notes

iPhone captures of whiteboards or documents saved as HEIC can become crisp PNG files that keep text edges sharp.

Technical details

HEIC is decoded in the browser with a WebAssembly build of libheif, downloaded once (about 3 MB) the first time you add a HEIC file; Safari decodes it natively. The PNG keeps the decoded pixels without further loss, applies the photo’s orientation so it stays upright, and converts colors to sRGB. That keeps the result displaying consistently across browsers, editors and office apps.

Expect large files. A 12-megapixel iPhone photo that is a couple of megabytes as HEIC can become many times bigger as PNG, because lossless compression handles photographic detail poorly. If you only need to view or share photos, HEIC to JPG produces far smaller files. EXIF metadata such as GPS location and camera settings is not copied into the PNG.

Your files stay with you

This tool runs entirely inside your browser using Web Workers and WebAssembly. Your images are never uploaded, never stored on a server and never used to train AI. Close the tab and they’re gone. Learn more

Frequently asked questions

Should I convert HEIC to PNG or JPG?

Use JPG to view, share or upload photos, since files stay reasonably small. Use PNG when you’ll edit the image repeatedly or need a lossless master, for example before retouching or removing a background. PNG files are much larger.

Why is my PNG so much bigger than the HEIC file?

HEIC uses modern lossy compression that is very efficient for photos. PNG is lossless and stores fine detail and sensor noise in full, so a photo can grow to many times its original size.

Is HEIC to PNG lossless?

The PNG step is lossless: it stores exactly the pixels decoded from the HEIC. Colors are converted to sRGB, though, so wide-color photos may lose a little vibrancy on displays that show extra color.

Will the PNG keep my photo’s date and location?

No. Converted files don’t include EXIF metadata, so date taken, camera details and GPS location are left out. Keep the original HEIC if you need that information.
