Why use this tool
Quality picked per photo
A detailed landscape and a plain product shot need different settings. Each JPG gets its own, chosen by SSIM.
Location data removed
Metadata, including any GPS coordinates recorded by your phone, is stripped from every optimized photo.
Ready for the web
Optionally cap the long edge at 1920, 2560 or 3840 px so camera-sized photos match what screens display.
Supported formats
Use cases
Blog and portfolio photos
Photographers posting work online can cut file sizes without second-guessing a slider, keeping the look of each image intact.
Product catalog uploads
Optimize a batch of product JPGs with varying backgrounds and detail; each one ends up at the smallest size that still looks right.
Phone photos with GPS
Publish phone photos on a public site without revealing where they were taken, since metadata is stripped during optimization.
Technical details
JPG (also written JPEG) is lossy, so the question is always how far quality can drop before anyone notices. Optimize JPG answers it per photo. Pixellin encodes several candidates, compares each with the original using SSIM, and keeps the smallest that clears the visually identical threshold. Two photos from the same shoot can end up at different quality settings, and that is intended: each one gets only what it needs.
This is the hands-off counterpart to Compress JPG, where you set the quality yourself. Use that page when you need one specific value for every photo; use this one when you want the smallest file that still looks the same. Metadata is stripped, the optional long-edge cap stops 4000-pixel photos from shipping to small screens, and files that can’t get smaller are kept as “Already optimized”.

Frequently asked questions
How do I optimize a JPG for the web?
Add your JPGs, set a long-edge cap such as 1920 px if the photos are larger than your layout, and select Process. Pixellin chooses the quality for each photo automatically and strips metadata. Download the results individually or as a ZIP.
Is optimizing a JPG lossless?
No. JPG is a lossy format, so re-encoding always discards some data. The optimizer limits that by keeping only results that score above a visually identical SSIM threshold, so the difference shouldn’t be visible at normal viewing size.
What JPG quality does the optimizer choose?
There’s no fixed number. Each photo is tested at several quality levels and the smallest result that stays visually identical wins. If you want to see the chosen quality and similarity score, the Image Quality Optimizer shows both for every file.
Will optimizing remove GPS location from my photos?
Yes. Metadata is stripped as part of optimization, so GPS coordinates and camera details are not included in the downloaded JPG. That makes it safer to post photos taken at home or in other private places.
