Why use this tool

Width and color

Set the border thickness in pixels and pick any color, from a thin gray line to a thick white mat.

Optional inner padding

Add space between the image and the border for a mounted, gallery-style look.

Same frame everywhere

Apply identical borders to a whole batch so a set of photos looks consistent in a grid or album.

Supported formats

Use cases

Screenshots in docs

White screenshots disappear on white pages. A 1–2 px gray border gives them a clear edge in documentation, help articles and emails.

Polaroid-style prints

A wide white border with padding turns everyday snapshots into framed prints for a photo wall or scrapbook.

Brand-colored frames

Add a border in your brand color to event photos so they’re recognizable when shared in feeds.

Technical details

The border is added outside the image, so nothing in the photo is covered and the output grows by twice the border width (plus twice the padding) in each direction. A 1200×800 photo with a 20 px border becomes 1240×840. Padding widens the frame further without changing the photo itself. If your platform needs an exact final size, add the border first, then resize. Borders are saved in JPG, PNG or WebP; for crisp thin lines on graphics, PNG avoids compression fringes around the edge.

Frequently asked questions

Does adding a border crop my photo?

No. The border is added around the outside, so the full image stays visible and the dimensions grow. A 1000×1000 image with a 10 px border becomes 1020×1020. If you need the original dimensions, resize the bordered result afterward.

How do I add a white border for Instagram?

Add the photo, choose white and a border width, and process. If you also need a specific post shape, use the Instagram resizer afterward with Fit inside and a white background, which pads the image to the exact size without cropping.

What’s the difference between border and padding?

The border is the colored frame at the outer edge. Padding is extra space between the photo and that frame. Use padding when you want the image to look mounted, like a print in a mat, rather than tightly outlined.

Can I add a border to a transparent PNG?

Yes. The border is drawn around the canvas edge, and transparent areas inside the image stay transparent if you save as PNG or WebP. Saving as JPG fills transparency with a solid color, because JPG can’t store it.
