Why use this tool
One number to enter
Type the width you need. Each image's height is calculated from its own aspect ratio, so nothing is squashed.
Mixed orientations welcome
Portrait and landscape photos in the same batch all end up the same width, each with its natural height.
No accidental upscaling
Images already narrower than your target keep their size, because Don't enlarge smaller images is on by default.
Supported formats
Use cases
Blog post column
Your theme's content column is 760 px. Resize images to 1520 px wide so they stay sharp on high-density screens without being needlessly heavy.
CMS upload limits
Some content systems cap images at a maximum width such as 2048 px. Resize to the limit before uploading so the CMS doesn't rescale them on its own terms.
Newsletter images
Email templates are commonly 600 px wide. Resizing images to 1200 px gives crisp results on retina screens while keeping the email light.
Technical details
Width-first resizing matches how web pages work: layouts have fixed or maximum column widths, while the page simply grows taller to fit. When you set only a width, the height is derived from each image's own aspect ratio. A 4000 × 3000 photo resized to 1200 px wide becomes 1200 × 900, while a 3000 × 4000 portrait becomes 1200 × 1600.
For responsive sites, a common approach is to export the same image at several widths, such as 640, 1280 and 1920 px, and let the browser pick one through srcset. Run the batch once per width. If the displayed width is fixed, about twice that width covers high-density screens. More on choosing sizes is in optimizing images for a website.

Frequently asked questions
How do I resize an image to a specific width but keep the aspect ratio?
Choose the width mode, type the width in pixels and leave the height alone. Pixellin calculates the height from each image's proportions, so a 3:2 photo stays 3:2. Lock aspect ratio is on by default.
What width should images be for a blog?
Check your theme's content width, then use roughly twice that value for sharp results on high-density screens. A 700–800 px column usually means 1400–1600 px images. Going wider mostly adds file size without a visible gain.
What happens to images narrower than the width I set?
They keep their original size. Don't enlarge smaller images is on by default because upscaling a small image makes it soft without adding detail. You can turn it off if every file must be exactly the same width.
Will portrait photos become very tall?
Yes. When you resize by width, a portrait photo keeps its taller shape, so a 1200 px wide portrait might be 1600 or 1800 px tall. If you need rows of equal height instead, resize by height.
Can I resize a whole folder of images to the same width?
Yes. Add up to 200 images at once, set the width once and select Process. Every image gets that width with its own height, and Download all packs the results into a single ZIP.
