  4. 04Download the ZIP and copy the HTML snippet.

Why use this tool

The whole set at once

One source image becomes the ICO file, PNG favicons, the Apple touch icon, Android icons and a site.webmanifest, all in one ZIP.

iOS black-corner fix

The Apple touch icon gets a background color, because iOS shows transparent areas as black on the home screen.

Paste-ready HTML

Copy the link tags for your page head, already pointing to the generated file names.

Use cases

Launching a new site

Generate every icon size from your logo before launch, so tabs, bookmarks and phone home screens show your mark instead of a generic globe.

Fixing a blurry tab icon

Replace an old 16-pixel favicon with a set that includes 32-pixel and larger icons, so it stays sharp on high-density screens.

Installable web apps

Get the 192 and 512 pixel Android icons and a web manifest that Android uses when someone adds your site to the home screen.

Technical details

The ZIP contains favicon.ico (with 16, 32 and 48 pixel sizes inside), favicon-16x16.png, favicon-32x32.png, apple-touch-icon.png at 180×180, android-chrome-192x192.png and android-chrome-512x512.png, and site.webmanifest. When your source is an SVG, an optional favicon.svg is included too, which modern browsers can use at any size. You also get the HTML link snippet to paste into the head of every page. Place the files at the root of your site so the paths in the snippet resolve.

Start from a square image with a simple shape. Fine detail and small text disappear at 16 pixels, so a bold symbol usually works better than a full wordmark. An SVG or a PNG of at least 512 pixels gives the cleanest large icons, because the 512 pixel Android icon can’t be sharper than its source. After uploading the files, check the tab icon, a bookmark and a phone home screen. The guide on creating a favicon walks through testing the result.

Frequently asked questions

What favicon sizes do I need?

A practical modern set is a favicon.ico with 16, 32 and 48 pixel sizes, 16 and 32 pixel PNGs, a 180 pixel Apple touch icon, and 192 and 512 pixel icons for Android and installed web apps. This generator creates exactly those, plus an SVG favicon when your source is SVG.

Why does my favicon have a black background on iPhone?

iOS fills transparent areas of the Apple touch icon with black when someone adds your site to the home screen. The generator gives apple-touch-icon.png a solid background color, so the icon looks as intended instead of sitting on a black square.

Do I still need favicon.ico?

It is still worth including. Some browsers, feed readers and tools request /favicon.ico directly without reading your HTML. Modern browsers prefer the PNG or SVG versions listed in your link tags, so the ICO acts as a fallback that keeps older clients covered.

Where do I put the favicon files?

Unzip them into the root folder of your website, next to your homepage, then paste the HTML snippet into the head section of your pages. If you put them in a subfolder, update the paths in the snippet and in site.webmanifest to match.

Why is my new favicon not showing?

Browsers cache favicons aggressively, often longer than other files. Open the site in a private window, or load /favicon.ico directly and refresh it. Also check that the link tags are in the head of the page you are viewing and that the file paths match where you uploaded the icons.
