Convert AVIF to PNG

Turn AVIF images into PNG when you need transparency or plan to edit the picture further. PNG stores the decoded pixels exactly, so repeated edits do not add compression damage.

How it works

  1. 01Add AVIF images by dropping, choosing or pasting them.
  2. 02Select Process; PNG output has no quality setting.
  3. 03Review the preview and the new file size for each image.
  4. 04Download each PNG or use Download all as a ZIP.

Why use this tool

Transparent areas kept

AVIF graphics with alpha, such as cut-out products or stickers, stay transparent in PNG, ready to layer in a design.

Safe for editing

PNG is lossless, so you can open, edit and save the image repeatedly without each save degrading it further.

Works in older tools

Design apps, CMS uploaders and slide software that ignore AVIF accept PNG without any trouble.

Use cases

Product cut-outs

An online store serves transparent product shots as AVIF. Convert them to PNG to place them in a catalog, slide or mockup on a new background.

Editing a downloaded graphic

Before retouching or annotating an AVIF image, convert it to PNG so further edits and saves do not stack up compression artifacts.

Screenshots and UI images

Interface graphics and diagrams delivered as AVIF are easier to reuse in documentation as PNG, which keeps text and edges crisp.

Technical details

PNG is lossless, so the converter writes out exactly the pixels decoded from the AVIF. It cannot restore detail the AVIF encoder already removed, but it guarantees nothing more is lost. Expect the PNG to be considerably larger than the AVIF, especially for photos, because lossless compression cannot discard information. Graphics with flat colors, such as icons and illustrations, grow much less. That makes PNG a working copy rather than a format for publishing large photos.

Transparency is preserved, including soft, semi-transparent edges, which is the main reason to choose PNG over JPG here. Colors are converted to sRGB and metadata is not kept, which also removes any location data. If the PNG is heavier than you want to publish, Compress PNG reduces its colors while keeping transparency, often saving more than half the size on graphics.

Frequently asked questions

Does AVIF to PNG keep transparency?

Yes. Both formats support an alpha channel, so transparent and semi-transparent areas of the AVIF remain transparent in the PNG. That makes PNG the right choice for logos, stickers and product cut-outs.

Why is the PNG so much larger than the AVIF?

AVIF uses lossy compression that is very efficient for photos, while PNG keeps every pixel exactly. A photographic AVIF of a few hundred kilobytes can become several megabytes as PNG. For photos where size matters, JPG is the smaller choice.

Is the conversion lossless?

The step from AVIF to PNG adds no further loss: the PNG holds exactly the pixels decoded from your file. Any detail removed when the AVIF was originally created cannot be recovered by any converter, though.

Can I convert AVIF on an iPhone?

Yes. Open the page in Safari, add the AVIF from Photos or Files, and select Process. On phones, the Share / Save option uses the system share sheet so you can save the PNG straight to your photos.
